World Kindness Day!

World Kindness Day is an international holiday that is observed on November 13. It is a day to be devoted to the positivity of simple acts of kindness. Kindness is a unifying factor that all humans can share and kindness can be infectious. Be inspired to be a little extra kind today: be kind to someone else, kind to yourself, or kind to the planet.  Here are some ideas to promote kindness around your travels.

Offset your carbon footprint whenever you book a flight:

A plane produces a little over 53 pounds of carbon dioxide per mile. So while flying is sometimes unavoidable, make an extra effort to be a little kinder to the environment. Take a shorter shower, drive less, turn your air conditioning off. You can calculate your flight emissions here.

Praise a local business online:

While it doesn’t have to be the resort you are staying at, as you venture out to enjoy your vacation try a simple praiseworthy review. Many local businesses not only enjoy but rely on their consumers to leave comments. Share what you ordered, call out an employee by name, say what you loved about your stay.

Use a reusable water bottle and travel mug:

Americans throw away about 25 billion Styrofoam cups and about 50 billion plastic water bottles. When you bring your own reusable water bottles and coffee cups you are showing your kindness to the planet. Sustainability is another way to show random acts of kindness.

Bring someone a souvenir:

Generally speaking people love presents. It is a sweet gesture of kindness that reminds the recipient that you were thinking about them, even while you were away. Even better, shop local to purchase, find a farmer’s market or local shops and you are being kind to them too.

Reminisce:

Sit around with your family and friends and share some of your favorite travel memories. Go over your old pictures laugh about the special moments that you have shared. Text a friend and share something about one of the adventures you shared. Not only will this improve your quality of life because remembering happy memories will help you smile more but it will also share a smile with family or with a friend!

So today, make it a point whether traveling or home, to show kindness today.
